Education
Painting pottery is not always just for fun; it can also be educational. Potter Around can visit your nursery or school and organise fundraising activities, enterprise initiatives and projects to complement the fundamental principles of the new Curriculum for Excellence.
Potter Around has now run the Making Entrepreneurs Schools Christmas Challenge throughout West Lothian and Edinburgh for two years. Schools could paint ornaments or make Christmas themed jewellery to sell. This Challenge is structured to work within the school curriculum.
In addition to the Challenge, we have put together a series of enterprise projects for schools. The aim is for the children to use numeracy, literacy, design and planning skills to make money in a real life project. We will supply all materials and give the children a series of options to choose. We will also work with them to cashflow their enterprise. At the end of the challenge, they will have beautiful high quality items to sell. Julia, who is an experienced speaker, corporate lawyer and former Chair of sportscotland, will visit the class and engage the children in the project, explaining fundamental business principles and will be available as a business mentor through the process. Schools can enhance the project further by advertising jobs within the Enterprise giving the children experience at interviews and developing their IT skills by making a video diary, power point presentation and using accounting software or spreadsheets.
We can also run a range of educational workshops using clay or painting pottery e.g. incorporating painted tiles into Roman mosaics or mini beast mansions. We can do a fun Paint a Pudsey Bear for Children in Need or run a competition to design a mug or piece of pottery for you to sell.
We also visit mother and toddler groups, playgroups, rainbow, brownies, guides, beavers, cubs and scout groups as well as private nurseries and corporate venues. We can fit in with anything you are planning for the children or staff and with your fundraising activities.
We have recently completed a mural for the new Meldrum Primary School which was organised on our business model so that the school made money on the project as well as gaining a fabulous handpainted mural. Karen helped the children and teacher with their design, taking their ideas and working through them to produce a great end result. We are just waiting for the official unveiling which will be very exciting.
There are numerous possibilities so please give us a call to talk through the options available.
